Mini Quest

It's been a year and a half now since I stopped working on Mini Quest.  It was probably the most fun project I've ever worked on, but unfortunately it was never finished.  You can still play it in its partial state on Android or IOS though.

Getting all this together was a nice trip down memory lane.  We had a small team and I did all the art (characters, monsters, backgrounds, particles and animations).  Everything except the UI.  It was such a fun project to work on, our only goal was to make a fun action RPG, which is a genre I love.

Below are all the characters and monsters I did, as well as samples of the 7 environments I made for the game.

Scrapped Comic Pages

As I mentioned a couple posts ago, my wife and I were working on a comic together.  We did the first two pages, but decided we hadn't figured enough of the story out, so we decided to scrap them.  I don't know if we'll end up doing this comic or not but it was fun to try with her.  I thought I would share those two pages here any way.

Fiore

My wife took up rapier fighting recently.  I decided to draw this of her in her outfit.  She is very happy with her hammer pants.

First look at possible new comic

I recently quit drawing Virtual Shackles.  It was a video game web comic I had been doing with a friend for four and a half years.  In the last comic I mentioned having time to work on a proper comic I'd always wanted to do, or to finish my rpg I had made at my last job.

What I'm actually going to try to do is satisfy both urges with the same project.  My goal is to start a new fantasy comic in the rpg genre.  The above image is of two characters from the comic.  I think I finally got a look I can be happy with in this image.

Green Lantern for Project Rooftop

Project Rooftop is holding another competition.  This time its for Green Lantern.  So this was my entry.

I wanted to give him more of a silhouette then he usually has, so I went with the coat look.  It also helped give him more of a sorcerer feel which I thought might be cool for someone who can conjure anything magically.

Ultimately I still wanted him to appear sleek and spacey though, so I tried to keep the forms simple and clean.  I took a chance with the pointed lantern design thinking it would reinforce that sleek look.

I know its probably awkward to carry around the lantern all the time, but I was thinking of him fighting more like a magician casting stuff, which made for a different form of visual action that I thought would be cool.

I love Skyrim

I have probably put 500 hours into playing Skyrim.  My wife and I have watched that opening so many times.  She always wants me to rush to the Sheogorath quest first thing when ever I make a new character.

I wasn't going to finish this drawing at first cause I was afraid his pose was too stiff and boring, but I ended up getting really into the inking and then the coloring it turned out better then I thought it would.

Did another one inked IRL.  My wife wanted a Tron picture she could put up at work.

Real Ink

I don't have a scanner any more so I took this with my phone and tried to clean up the levels in photoshop some.   I was trying to do some real world inking as opposed to digital.  Haven't done much of that in years.

Thanks Project Rooftop.

Project Rooftop released their list of honorable mentions for their Fantastic Four: Fashion Forward and I was one of them!  Thanks so much to everyone over there!

Spidey and Venom Page

I've worked my way back into making pages.  I used to do short 4 page stories a lot when I was a kid and in early college, but haven't done one in probably 10 years.  That's why I was kind of building my way back to it by doing some practice sketches.

I just came up with a very short one page sequence to start with, starring Venom and Spiderman.  Still not really comfortable with the coloring part, I tried some new things here.  I think I'm happy with the turnout.  What do you guys think over all?

FF

Project Rooftop is doing a Fantastic Four costume contest this month.  I was thinking of entering but I didn't really do anything novel here so we'll see.  Either way this was fun and more good practice.

Wonder Woman

With tonight's drawing I wanted to see what I could do with a gladiator style Wonder Woman.

Shpidamanz

I'm really excited to go see the new Spiderman tomorrow so of course that's the inspiration for this latest practice piece.  I want to start doing pages but haven't really figured out what to do yet, so for now I figure some fun panels would be cool to work into it.

I'm posting the black and whites too now I think cause I'm not totally sure about my coloring skills.

A New Goal

I've been meaning to resurrect this blog.  I decided to give it a new URL that is more appropriate.  It's now jeremyvinar.com (sorry to all you sketchfat fan), the old one will still work too though.

The other reason I decided to resurrect it is I have a new goal!  I have been in the games industry for 8 years now and that's going totally great, but I've always had that childhood love of drawing comics.  Some of you may know I have been doing a webcomic with my friend Mike Fahmie for 3 and a half years called virtualshackles.com.  That is still going but I want to work toward breaking into mainstream comics some day.  I know that's a lofty goal, but I figure so is making video game art professionally, so what the heck why not go for it.

So for the past couple weeks I've done a few sketches to start getting me in the mood.  Rather then just emailing them to my friend Pat for feedback, it's time I post them here for all to see as I do them.

Continued wip with the mob guy

I'm trying the painterly look in Photoshop now, instead of Painter. What you guys think of this style? Do you think this is a good direction? Is it THAT different then how my other stuff looks? Too smooth and modeled looking? That's the one thing I don't always like about my stuff and I'm attempting to get away from it.

I'm trying to just lay in brushstrokes with color, although I'm not quite succeeding at it yet. I'm noticing to just lay in color straight away takes a lot confidence in each stroke.

Mob guy work in progress

This is a drawing I did yesterday. I'm trying to figure out a method of working in Painter. This is as far as I can get so far. Painter's tough.

Squids

I just finished this squid painting. I've been working on it in my spare time for the past week or so. Check it out.
